I have come to believe that Jack Kirby's "Fourth World" was actually a euphemism for Earth 4 where his New Gods resided. My supporting evidence is how he drew Superman. Being an artist I'm certain he knew how to draw the big cheese's "S" and on which side was his spit-curl..
Check out my inked and colored rendition and see if it doesn't raise some questions.

So you're saying that Kirby's Superman was the Superman of Earth-4?
Yup. That what I content in a nutshell. C'mon we're both artists. We find reference if we don't know what someone looks like! Kirby knew what he was doing.
John Morrow, who publishes the Kirby Collector kind of validated my idea in a back handed kind of way. And I quote:
